Recipe: Tangy Cheddar Biscuits

Tangy Cheddar Biscuits


2 cups sifted white flour

1/2 cup vegetable shortening

1/2 cup milk

1 T baking powder

1 tsp salt

6 oz finely grated Cheddar seasoned with garlic powder

1/4 cup milk, warmed

1/4 cup melted butter

Begin by sifting together the flour, baking powder and salt. Work with a pastry knife until coarse. Add the shortening and work again. Form a well and add the 1/2 cup milk all at once. Work until stirrable with a fork.

Roll the dough out to a 1/4 inch thickness and about an inch apart on a greased cookie sheet. Place grated Cheddar cheese on half the circles, and cover with the remaining circle of dough. Brush with melted butter and milk. Bake at 450 degrees for 12 minutes. Makes 14 biscuits.
